Sacramento Living

What to expect once you move to Sacramento for KDC

Welcome to Farm to Fork Capital (AKA: Sacramento)

Located in Northern California, Sacramento is home to the state capital, has a plethora of both outdoor and indoor activities.  Home to both the Sacramento River, American River, Folsom Lake as well as numerous fantastic coffee shops – there is something for everyone. Sacramento is situated in the Sacramento Valley – centrally located to both San Francisco as well as Lake Tahoe.

Climate

Sacramento has hot summers, and mild/wet winters.  Sacramento averages about 269 sunny days per year.

Recreation

Sailing, boating, kayaking are all available in the numerous waterways that surround Sacramento.  Folsom also boasts scenic hiking trails as well as fishing opportunities.

Transportation

It is ideal for you to have a car, but you may be able to make carpool arrangements with fellow students.  KDC will provide a platform where, upon acceptance, students can communicate with each other and work together to coordinate transport to/from school.  Additionally our area is very bike friendly, has some public transportation as well as numerous ride-sharing app drivers.

Medical

Medical care can become quite costly – as such we do recommend you have health insurance coverage prior to traveling.  Please do note that many hospitals and physicians may not provide patient care without proof of medical coverage.

Housing

Your housing is included as part of your tuition in one of our fully remodeled dorm houses located in the city of Rancho Cordova, easy driving distance to KDC.

Emergency

You can dial 911 in most parts of California and immediately be connected with first responders.  In remote areas where 911 may not be available, please dial 0 to be connected with an operator who will then connect you to emergency services.

Co-ed Housing

While we don’t have tons of rules regarding lifestyle, years of working with people have taught us some practices we consider quite wise, holy & healthy.  With this, we do not have co-ed housing available.  While we understand this may be normal in some cultures, and may be needed in overseas missions environments, we do discourage this while at KDC.  We ask that you honor us by respecting these values in this area.  The exception to this would be couples who are in matrimony through a holy covenant.

Hospitals

You can dial 911 in most parts of California and immediately be connected with first responders.  In remote areas where 911 may not be available, please dial 0 to be connected with an operator who will then connect you to emergency services.

Minor Illnesses

Common medications, vitamins, pills, etc can be easily purchased at local pharmacies and convenience stores.  Additionally there are numerous urgent care clinics and physicians available for checkups and prescriptions.
